Conservatories are normally designed as a bridge between the outside world and your home. They are perfect hideaways from the rest of the house, where all the hustle and bustle occurs. You can take yourself off to your conservatory and enjoy a bit of peace and quiet from the rest of the household. To get the most out of this relaxing spot though, you need to invest in quality conservatory chairs and a good set of cushions. Even if you don’t anticipate spending more than a couple of hours in your conservatory a day or even a week, you will still want it to feel part of the home, a place to relax, unwind. But where to even begin? It’s easy to feel intimidated by the sheer choice of conservatory chairs available.

The decision becomes a lot easier when you begin thinking about the key things you want from your chairs. For example, what style of chair would you prefer? Do you have any plants that consume much of the floor space? Does it fit the interior design of the conservatory? Wicker and cane conservatory chairs are all immensely popular. If you’ve only got a small lean-to, you may want a smaller build or if you like to layback in that special area of escape, you may benefit from one of the bigger reclining conservatory chairs available. If you’re looking to change the style of the conservatory, then it may be dining furniture you need. It may even be worth investing in a conservatory heater for the winter months.

We know only too well that the sheer variety and choice available can be intimidating, so we’ve listed 9 recommended chairs we think would make a great fit for varying types of conservatories. We have broken down the guide into three sections –Reclining Conservatory Chairs, Wicker Conservatory Chairs and then A Handful of Our Favourite Chairs. Most of the time this decision relies on the design of the conservatory and of course a personal preference, hopefully, these 9 will give you that ‘wow’ factor.

Desser Chelsea Armchair in Blossom

1 / 2
2 / 2

The Desser Chelsea Armchair in Blossom brings a new variation of the classic chair, it is smaller than the previous two so it will work wonderfully in a smaller space.

Created from hand-woven, premium cane to give the famous curves of the arms, this chair also benefits from woven side panels. This provides a solid look and feel, while removing that annoying problem of your phone and other pocket items falling down side openings.

We love the Blossom print fabric with subtle warm shades to highlight the intricate flowers featured on the cushions. However, this is also available in the Shiraz print, a slightly bolder designer with a lovely nostalgic, vintage feel.

Why stop at just this one chair? There is a matching coffee table, sofa, footstool and side table also available. We love the idea of mixing up these two fabric designs throughout to give each piece some individuality.

Due to their lightweight construction, you can easily take these outside to enjoy the comfort on a warm day with a good book

One of the best-selling reclining conservatory chairs from More4Homes, the Eaton Wingback Fireside Herringbone Reclining Sofa Chair is from their Premier collection and a very attractive chair indeed. It features high-quality herringbone grey fabric upholstery and has a push-back recliner mechanism that’s easy to use. We love it because the mechanics involved in its design are well hidden, and don’t distract from its class and sophistication.

What’s more, the pillow back support and the arms are filled with soft and soothing foam to give you the most comfortable experience possible. It means that you can sit back and just watch the world fly by for hours and hours.

They also benefit from thoughtful lumbar support, meaning you’ll never inadvertently do damage to your back or other delicate areas. Once you sit back in this chair, and use the recliner mechanism, you use your bodyweight to push it back and as the back reclines, the supportive footrest raises up.

Like the model above, this Althorpe Wingback Fireside Reclining Armchair is also part of the Premier collection from More4Homes. The main difference is the upholstery has a beautiful gingham pattern and beige colouring. Everything else is the same, so if you like the above and wanted another chair that has the same structure and reclining mechanism, but wanted a different colouring, you could invest in both. We think either or both would look delightful in just about any conservatory.

Although they do have that old country and traditional feel about them, either would still bring a touch of luxury and eloquence to a more modern conservatory.

TecTake Luxury Aluminium Wicker Chair

1 / 2
2 / 2

This delightfully old-school and very traditional-looking TecTake Luxury Aluminium Wicker Chair comes in an aesthetically pleasing natural brown colouring, offseting and contrasting the pure brilliant white of most conservatories perfectly.

Made with an aluminium frame, you can be sure you won’t have any problem with this falling apart easily. As much as we all love wicker, one of the problems with traditional wicker is caring for it. That’s where TecTake have been clever and used an imitation rattan wicker, rather than the real thing.

If the idea of harsh and sharp aluminium legs on the delicate surface of your conservatory floor doesn’t sound especially appealing, don’t worry. TecTake have fitted the legs of their wicker conservatory chair with plastic feet. That way your wood, tiling, lino or carpeting will be safe from damage.

To provide that much needed comfort, the seat and the backing have soft cushioning. What we love is the fact that the cushion covers can be removed and washed, helping to keep the chair looking as new all the time.

Chair is a little bulky so not ideal for small spaces

If you are still a bit bewildered by all the choice, here are some things to look out for when purchasing your new conservatory chair.

Style

It’s always a good idea to choose your style first, this will save you from the headache of sifting through thousands of products online and simply getting confused.

Once your style of conservatory seating has been chosen, you can then start to think about other factors.

If you are looking for a statement piece then a tub or wingback may be the best conservatory furniture for you. If comfort is more your thing then perhaps look into reclining conservatory chairs and other reclining conservatory furniture.

Will your new conservatory chairs be used for a home office? You need to invest in a proper desk chair or executive chair to make sure you have the right posture while working all those hours.

Size

As much as we would all love to have luxury conservatory furniture with a feeling of grandeur, if you overpower your smaller space with this then you quickly get the wrong aesthetic.

Remember, just because a chair physically fits in a corner of your conservatory, it doesn’t mean it suits it. Cramming larger furniture into smaller spaces should always be avoided.

When measuring your area, think about how much better it would look with a bit of surrounding space around it, perhaps with room for a side table or decorative conservatory plants to make it more of a feature as well as a function. On many occasions, small conservatory chairs will be better than larger ones.

Material

Thinking about the material of your chair is crucial as this affects both the look and comfort.

Leather can look and feel like a luxury while withstanding many years of wear. If you have children or are prone to spills, it’s easy to wipe clean. However, leather can change with the seasons and can be cold in the winter and too hot in the summer.

Typical upholstery fabric is incredibly versatile and you will have the widest range of colours and patterns. However, stains can be hard to remove and brighter fabrics are prone to sun damage over time.

Wood, plastic and metal are incredible resilient fabrics, they are wipe clean and any damage can easily be rectified with a simple revarnishing. Unfortunately, they are not famous for their comfort so it is worth investing in some conservatory cushions.

Weight

What functions do you want from your conservatory? As such a versatile space, no two homes use them in the same way.

Many of us use them for entertaining during special occasions and this often means having to rearrange your conservatory to accommodate your guests.

If you have large, bulky chairs, this can be an issue, especially if you are needing to store them in another room during your event.

FAQs

Common questions asked about conservatory chairs

Where Can I Buy Conservatory Chairs?

We love browsing online, websites like Amazon are the perfect place to buy your conservatory chairs as you will have a large range and delivery is often swift as these chairs are ready-made.

High street shops are still great, especially if your tastes aren’t too specific. If you have a certain comfort requirement due to injury or mobility issues, it’s always good to try before you buy too.

How Can I Clean Leather Chairs?

Vacuum the surface first to get rid of any debris and crumbs. You can buy a leather-safe cleaning solution or make one with a few drops of soap and warm water and use a clean towel or cloth to sponge this into the leather.

Using a dry cloth, dry your chair, then condition the leather once dry. You can do this with specialist products but using olive oil works just as well. Add a small amount of oil to a dry rag and gently wipe into the fabric.

How Can I Clean Fabric Chairs?

Firstly, vacuum your chair with an upholstery attachment. Next, check the tags on your chair as all fabric differs, if the label has an ‘X’ on it, this means you will need to get a professional.

You can create your own cleaning solution by mixing ¼ cup washing up liquid with 1 cup of warm water and lightly sponge into your chair and rinse. Don’t allow anyone to sit on it while it is still wet so make sure your family know it has been cleaned.

To speed up the drying process, allow the cushions to dry separately.

How Can I Reupholster Chairs?

Maybe you don’t currently have the budget for a new chair or perhaps you simply enjoying upcycling to reduce waste. In that case, it’s very easy to reupholster chairs.

Choose a fabric that is specially designed for upholstery, dressmaking fabric and cotton simply don’t have the integrity to withstand all that sitting.

Remove all the old fabric from the chair first, this should give you a good idea of how much new fabric you will need to purchase.

Measure your new fabric against your chair and create a pattern to cut, for an easy pattern, you can simply copy the shape of the old fabric you removed.

You can then use an upholstery staple gun to attach your new fabric, be careful not to overstretch the fabric as this can cause rips when you do sit on it.

Can I get chairs if I have a small conservatory?

Yes it is possible! we have found this youtube video giving you inspiration on how to design your conservatory.
