Harbour Housewares Compact Dining Table & Chairs

2 / 2

The Harbour Housewares Compact Dining Table & Chairs has a laid back look and feel to it that makes it stylish and not overtly imposing or intimidating. A deceptively sturdy two seater dining set that can serve everyday use, the wood topping is easy to clean and does not get damaged easily from scratches. The chairs can be easily stored underneath the table. For creative use of space, the deep and rich colouring can give a relatively bland room an infusion of depth. The sets design goes well with your conservatory kitchens and dining areas as the dining set fits it into the new vintage and is ‘instagrammable’. The chair is designed to be practical but its attention to details seems to be lacking. Some holes are missing in the set and one will have to drill them in. This product is highly recommended for couples and people who want a timeless looking dining set.

Greenhurst Compact Dining Set

1 / 2
2 / 2

Born out of the classic wood and steel combination, the Greenhurst Compact Dining Set is an sophisticated, regal centrepiece in your conservatory or your favourite conservatory indoor plant. A compact two chair conservatory dining set with oval top is slightly outlandish but well-fitting for especially intimate dinners and conversations. With a modest and chic design, the materials are lightweight and the set can be easily moved from one point to another like from the conservatory to the kitchen. The colour scheme is very fitting for the warm summer and autumn periods. It comes equipped with a storage compartment that comes handy for storing items like newspapers and napkins. The height of the table and chairs is appropriate for tall people to use. However, the company seems to spend so much time designing the table that they slacked with the installation. The installation is relatively easy to assemble but tricky at the same time, one has to be careful not to damage the tabletop with the screws. The screws are not of clearly labelled dimensions so it requires some trial and error to get it right. When not properly fitted, the screws will dent the tabletop. At other times, some little parts like screws and tubings needed to hold the table together may be missing. This is not so much of a problem as you can always replace the missing parts with substitutes all by yourself. If you need a simple but practical item to occupy your corner space, this is it.

Summary

So, it’s time to choose your dining table and chairs – no pressure.

If you will be making use of your conservatory for various other events like house parties and book readings, then we suggest more of this type of conservatory dining tables. Though it is also important to consider investing in a comfy set of conservatory chairs and conservatory curtains or conservatory blinds that match the style of the room.

The other option is the regular non-portable conservatory dining sets that you will fix in a position for a long time; this is a great type for those that want to use their conservatory as a long term dining room.

Whatever your type of conservatory dining tables, above are some great conservatory dining ideas for you to use.

Here are a few things to consider…

Placement

Before you even start to think about buying your new conservatory dining table you need to think about where it will go.

Traditionally, a dining table sits in the middle of the room, but will this be practical? Your conservatory is also your access to your garden and you don’t want to be having to manoeuvre your way around it each time you want to go outside.

If your room is small, you can still create a dining room conservatory but you may need to be a little more creative. Folding conservatory dining table and chairs are a brilliant idea as they can be stored away when not in use and even repurposed as coffee tables or sideboards.

You could avoid this problem altogether and choose one of the corner conservatory dining sets. If you choose to do so, make sure you have invested in the right conservatory curtains

Whoever sits near the window can end up feeling the cold in winter and the searing heat in summer, so curtains can really make a difference when you sit down for dinner.

Material

Wood, plastic, metal or glass? It can be confusing to know what to pick when shopping for conservatory dining tables. They all have their pros and cons and you should always think about them when making your decision.

Wood is incredibly classic and sturdy, you can’t really go wrong. However, wood can easily stain from spilt drinks or food left over by the little ones.

You can rectify this with a new coat of varnish or paint, this will require sanding first though.

Plastic conservatory dining sets work well for if you have children, it can be easily cleaned and is also resilient to the outdoors so can easily be taken out onto the patio on a sunny day.

However, plastic isn’t the strongest of materials and may not last as many years as you want it to. It also succumbs to sun damage quickly and can become discoloured. Not good for a room made of glass!

Metal can solve a lot of problems when it comes to finding dining furniture suitable for a conservatory. It doesn’t discolour easily and is sturdy enough to survive for many years.

It can be cumbersome, so if you want to move your conservatory table around for different events, it could cause a problem.

Glass is sleek, elegant and can turn even the most ancient of conservatories into a modern masterpiece.

But if you aren’t prepared to properly maintain your glass table, it can look dreadful. Fingerprints and dust can turn a statement piece onto a mess, be ready to go through a lot of glass cleaner.

Size

There’s no point in buying a conservatory dining room table if the whole family can’t fit around it. But how many of us really have the space for a table of that size?

Don’t cram an oversized table into the room, it will simply look unsightly and make it difficult to move around.

Look into folding or collapsable tables, some of the options above may only be two-seaters but you can easily stack them together and they store away so easily when not in use.

FAQs

Common questions around conservatory dining furniture

How Can I Decorate A Dining Table?

There is no limit to decorating a dining room table. We do recommend keeping it simple though, as much as we love accessories, you need to remember that there needs to be room for people to actually eat!

Adding a runner down your table gives it an instant lift and can be used all year round. Adding matching coasters not only protects your table but also provides a great look.

We love a centrepiece, especially at Christmas and other holidays. But they can get in the way, keep your centrepiece low to prevent those sitting in front of it from not being able to talk to each other.

How Much Space Should Be Around A Dining Table?

Typically there should be 3 foot from the back of a chair and the wall. This provides enough space for chairs to be pulled out and easily sat in.

If you have a larger family member of somebody with mobility issues, we recommend you aim for a bit more.

If you want this to be placed amongst your other conservatory furniture, make sure you measure it first. Especially if you have a larger piece such as a 3 seater conservatory sofa.

How Do I Set A Dining Table?

Make sure you do this right to really impress! Plates should be stacked in the centre with dinner plate at the bottom, then salad plate then soup bowl.

Napkins should be on the left with the fork placed on top and the knife on the right and soup spoon on the right outside.

A wine glass and water glass should be set at 1 o’clock. Even if you aren’t hosting a party, having the table set looks amazing in your home and gives a real show-home feel.

Can I make my own dining table?

There are loads of videos online showing you how to DIY or restore tables to make them your own. We found this one for you!
