Mirrors can add so much to a space, however investing in a large mirror can often be costly, and may not complement the room you want to put it into. A rattan mirror can give you the best of both worlds: a design that is stylish and low maintenance, and a mirror that is of high quality but won’t cost you the earth to buy. There are many options available, including a square rattan mirror and a round rattan mirror being the two most popular choices on the market, however you can access a number of styles that can work with any room size and design.

If you already own rattan furniture, for example rattan lamp shades or rattan coffee tables, sticking to the same theme with the rest of your furnishings can add balance and style to your room, which is why rattan mirrors work so well in spaces like conservatories and open plan kitchens which are designed for this style of furniture.

We review 5 of the best rattan mirrors, taking into consideration their design, maintenance and overall suitability. We’ve also included some extra guides at the bottom so you can make the right decision with your purchase.

Summary

If you’re struggling to pick a mirror, don’t worry – you definitely aren’t alone. Mirrors can either unify the furnishings in your house, or go the complete opposite way and make your space feel off balance. We find that rattan mirrors work best in rooms that already contain rattan furnishings such as coffee tables, lamp shades or chairs, but if you are looking to put the mirror up in a front room or bedroom look for neutral or dark colours to complement the material and colour of the mirror’s design.

We’ve listed a few things to think about when picking your mirror, so if you’re confused – hopefully these suggestions will help.

Colour

Picking the right colour is really important, as it will help to unify all of your furniture and will ensure that your mirror doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. We recommend going for neutral colours when picking a rattan design, as they work best in neutral or warm tones. Light coloured rattan is also easier to paint over if you needed to in the future (for example if you decided to do a complete redesign of a room)

Maintenance

Rattan furniture in general is known for being low maintenance, but if you are looking for something that will take you seconds to clean then be mindful of this when picking your design. The more complicated the style (tighter weaves, extra layers) the more difficult it will be to maintain.

Style

If you’re someone who changes their mind constantly about styles and designs, then we recommend going for something minimalistic and neutral to avoid you feeling buyers remorse when purchasing your mirror. Remember, the simpler design the more likely it is to fit in with the style of your interior over time.

Positioning

Rattan furniture in general works very well in conservatories and kitchens, and it’s important to consider where you want your mirror to go once purchased. Let’s look at conservatories as an example: Flat pack conservatories require a lot of work when it comes to furniture, you have to purchase conservatory corner sofas blackout curtains for the conservatory as well as an electric wall heater for the conservatory. Once you have your ‘key furnishings’ out the way you have to figure out exactly what your soft and decorative furnishings will be and where they’ll all go. If you can figure out where the decorative furnishings (like your mirror) will go first, it’ll help you a lot with the positioning for the rest of the furniture in this particular room. You can apply this method to any room, but we wanted to use a conservatory as an example.

FAQ

Can the mirrors be disassembled from the frame?

Unless the listing says you can disassemble it, then no – you can’t. Because the mirrors are designed to be tightly fitted into the frames, you may find it difficult to remove them without damaging the rattan surrounding the mirror. If the mirror broke, however, it would be easier to take out in smaller pieces. Finding a replacement mirror would involve measuring the diameter and circumference where the new mirror will go.

Can I paint the rattan?

Yes you can, however we recommend taping/covering the mirror so you do not get any paint on it. You may have to treat the rattan with a paint primer before putting on your colour of choice.

How do I hang the mirror on the wall?

Most rattan mirrors won’t come with the extra parts you’ll need to hang it, so you can either hook it with a metal hook, or hang it using string and a nail in the wall.
